Equipment suppliers Biax-Fiberfilm and Reicofil used the first day of INDEX 08 to announce a new partnership dedicated to the development of turnkey systems specifically for meltblown Lyocell nonwovens. Through this partnership, the two companies will jointly build a one-meter pilot line based on the technology, which is expected to be operational early next year at a yet-to-be-determined location.
The technology uses a die developed and proven to work by Biax-Fiberfilm, based in Greenville, WI, as well as Troisdorf, Germany-based Reicofil’s equipment expertise, to create meltblown technology based on Lyocell biodegradable pulp. The result is a fully biodegradable meltblown nonwoven that is much stronger than traditional meltblown materials and has application in a range of areas including hygiene, diapers, wipes and clothing, according to the two companies.
