The year’s largest nonwovens exposition, INDEX 2008, will open its doors tomorrow at the Pal-Expo Convention Center in Geneva, Switzerland. Held once every three years, INDEX will cover the whole spectrum of the nonwovens industry and feature exhibitors from nearly 100 countries who will convene in Geneva for the four-day event this week.
The exhibition will be kicked off at 9 a.m. with an inaugural ribbon cutting ceremony held at the top o the escalators at the entrance to the exhibition hall. Among those in attendance will be Pierre Wiertz, general manager of EDANA, the sponsor of the exhibition, Claude Membrez, director general of Orgexpo, the organizer of INDEX, Georges Kindhauser, exhibition director of INDEX 08 and Gerd Rise, the chairman of EDANA.
With 21,000 square meters of exhibition space, INDEX will feature some 500 exhibitors ranging from nonwovens suppliers to machinery and equipment producers to raw material providers to converters to educational and trade organizations to publications. Event organizers, Pal-Expo and sponsor EDANA, the European trade association representing the nonwovens industry, expect attendance to top 13,000, surpassing past INDEX events, which have been held since 1973.
“INDEX has become a flagship event for the nonwovens industry and the number of exhibitors and visitors expected this year is further testimony to that,” said Pierre Wiertz, general manager of EDANA. “Decision-makers from all levels of the nonwovens value chain come together under one roof knowing they will find what they are looking for, whether it is exhibitors in search of new clients or visitors seeking new business opportunities. It is a unique meeting place for the entire industry.”
The exposition will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, Wednesday, April 17 and Thursday, April 18 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 19.
