BASF Focuses On Sustainability

Sustainability is the central theme of BASF’s INDEX 2008 booth. The company this week is presenting new product developments and applications for fiber bonding and superabsorbents for the hygiene and nonwovens companies looking for environmentally friendly fiber bonding agents and liquid absorbing polymers for their products.

For fiber bonding, BASF offers Acrodur, eco-friendly reactive resins that can be used for natural fiber moldings, glass and synthetic fiber nonwovens. The latest application for these resins is the environmentally friendly cork floorings of Portuguese group Amorim, the world’s biggest producer of cork products. These products have a higher eco-efficiency than compatible vinyl tiles and floating wood parquet. Another focus is Acronal brand acrylate dispersions, which have been used in polyester and glass nonwovens as well as to bind cellulosic substrates. Cellulosic filters produced with Acronal display low water absorption, high wet and internal bond strength and are particularly robust.

Meanwhile, in superabsorbents sustainability has become a key issue for hygiene industry products that come in close contact with the body, such as baby diapers, incontinence products and feminine hygiene. BASF offers all-in-one solutions as well as customized solutions developed in close collaboration with innovative customers.
